Croydon Airport
Croydon Airport opened in 1920 and was the main airport in the UK at the time. It was temporarily an RAF base during the Second World War, reverting to civilian use afterwards. Due to the expansion of London, it became impossible to keep growing the site and Heathrow soon took over as the main airport and the site closed in 1959. Very little of the site remains - the most notable is Airport House, the former terminal building.
