Wembley Stadium
Wembley Stadium originally opened in 1923 as the Empire Stadium. It is host to major UK football events, most notably the FA Cup final, though has also hosted other events over the years such as the 1948 Olympics. The Empire Pool was built at the north-west corner of the stadium in 1934, becoming Wembly Arena in 1978 and a major sport and music venue.
Wembley Stadium's Twin Towers were a world recognised landmark and there was considerable controversy when it was decided to completely demolish the site in order to rebuild a larger stadium which opened in 2007.
